Bachmann Trains
Bachmann Trains have a long history that starts way back in 1833, when Henry Carlisle started a manufacturing business producing Spanish combs mostly made from Tortoise shell, horn and ivory.
Although most of his comb market was lost in the American Civil War, the company diversified into making other items on a larger scale.
By 1899 the firm was being managed by the son of a German immigrant called Henry E Bachmann. His farther, Henry G Bachmann, also ran a business that was producing very similar products to that of Henry Carlisle. It was inevitable that the two firms would merge, which they did in 1899.
By the 1900 the company had started to use plastics to make some of its products, one of which was a small plastic fence designed to decorate the base of Christmas trees.
This soon became popular with early model railway enthusiasts. Seeing this demand the company soon began to make other model products, including buildings, first in O scale, then in HO scale and finally in N scale. It was not until 1952 that they produced their first Bachmann trains.
The company started to produce model animals in the early 60’s and later went on to produce military models, radio controlled models and slot cars to name but a few. By the late 70’s Bachmann had stopped making other toys to concentrate on model trains.
They gradually improved the quality of their model trains and in 1988 introduced the Spectrum line. This was a much higher quality train set with far more detail than any of their previous models. By 1988 Bachmann had won model of the year for their HO scale 2-8-0 consolidation.
Bachmann set up its European branch in 1989 to sell the
Bachmann Branch line models. Bachmann Trains are now sold all over the world and
are sort after for their fine detail and build quality. Lately Bachmann has
been concentrating on their Digital command control or DCC for short. This
enables Bachmann trains to produce some
incredible sound effects that just have to be heard. It also enables you to
have a great deal of control over your Bachmann Trains.
